Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must have been a resident of Chatham, Durham, Orange, Wake, or Person counties in North Carolina for 12 or more months consecutively prior to application. Please note: All applicants must meet the requirements to qualify for in-state tuition.
  4. Must be accepted or enrolled in an eligible diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree program.
  5. Must be pursuing a nursing program.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Residents of Chatham, Durham, Orange, Wake, or Person counties in North Carolina who are incoming or current undergraduate nursing students are eligible for this award. Students must demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: In 2008, the Carol Ann Beerstecher Nursing Scholarship Fund was created at Triangle Community Foundation as a tribute to Carol and to her dedication, passion, and commitment to nursing by the Beerstecher family. Their desire is that this fund will assist those individuals who may share Carol's passion for nursing, but who may not have the financial means to achieve those dreams. All applicants must have a proven financial need. Financial need will be based on the expected family contribution (EFC) listed on the Student Aid Report (SAR). The Carol Ann Beerstecher Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, sex, religion, age or national origin. The Scholarship Committee will award the following point values when judging applicants for scholarship awards: applicant statement, up to 30 points; letters of reference, up to 15 points; community involvement, up to 15 points; grade point average, up to 15 points; financial need, up to 25 points.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually, renewable for an additional year as long as the recipient maintains a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available online from the North Carolina Foundation for Nursing. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a statement of no more than 500 words presenting his/her reasons for pursuing an education in nursing; two letters of recommendation from individuals who are knowledgeable of his/her character, contributions to community, and potential for contributions to nursing; proof of acceptance into an eligible nursing program; proof of residence in an eligible county; unofficial transcripts from the last three years of coursework; and his/her SAR (Student Aid Report) as obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Please note: If the applicant has not been enrolled in an academic institution in the last five years, a letter from a supervisor verifying his/her responsibility, adaptability, motivation, and capacity for success will be accepted in place of transcripts. All application materials must be submitted in a single packet to the address provided, and must be received by the deadline date.
