Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. *Please note: The number of recipients for this program varies according to the number of students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year. A minimum of five awards will be provided.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must pursue a degree in medicine.
  3. Must plan to enroll or be enrolled in a medical school during the academic year following the deadline date.

Description: This award is available to students enrolled or planning to enroll in medical school, regardless of race, sex, or home town.

Additional Information: CAPS is offering scholarship(s) to students enrolled in medical schools in the U.S. The CAPS scholarship is open to all medical students in need of financial aid regardless of his/her hometown, sex, race or color. The scholarship recipient's name will be posted on the society's website. The applicant is judged according to his/her academic achievements, financial needs, community service records and essay. *Please note: Special consideration is given to those who are willing to serve the Chinese community after their graduation.

Award Amount: $2,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available on the Chinese American Physicians Society (CAPS) website. Applications may also be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to the society using the contact information provided. In addition to the completed application, the following materials must be submitted: an essay of 500 words or less addressing the topic listed on the application; a financial aid award letter or statement from his/her financial aid office; a copy of his/her most recent tax return or his/her guardian's if he/she is still considered a dependent (if no 1040 was filed, the applicant must include a statement addressing the issue); two letters of recommendation in support of the applicant's research and/or community services and any additional items to support his/her application, such as publications. If sending an example of his/her published work, the student should only send the summary or the first page of the publication (do not send the whole paper). The completed application and supporting materials must be submitted by email and must reach the society by the deadline date using the email address provided.
