Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding. Last year, 12 awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must attend the Maine Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine (MMC-TUSM) or the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  3. Must have one or more years of residence in Maine for purposes other than education.
  4. Priority is given to a student who meets two or more of the following: he/she has received a high school diploma, or its equivalent, in Maine; he/she has received a baccalaureate degree from a four-year college or university in Maine; or the legal residence of the his/her parent or legal guardian is in Maine.
  5. Must commence his/her medical education on or after July 1.
  6. Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a qualifying medical school program.

Additional Information: This year, the Maine Osteopathic Association has decided to use its existing scholarship funds to support the Doctors for Maine's Future Scholarship Program.

Award Amount: Up to 50 percent of the institution's cost of attendance or $25,000 annually, whichever is less. The award is renewable for up to three years. Funds are disbursed twice per year as established by the medical school, typically in the fall and spring semesters.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $25,000.
