Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Foundation/ Sigma Theta Tau International, Inc. (Sigma)

Number of Awards & Eligibility: There will be one Charles Kunz Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship, one Betty J. Smith Scholarship, and one Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Undergraduate Scholarship offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must major in nursing.
  3. Must be a member of the Emergency Nurses Association for 12 months or more prior to applying.
  4. Must be a nurse (RN, LPN, or LVN). BCEN Scholarship applicants must possess a current BCEN credential (CEN, CFRN, CTRN, or CPEN).
  5. Must be pursuing a bachelors degree.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to current nurses who are pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The applicant must be a member of the Emergency Nurses Association.

Application requirements for the ENA Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: The requirements for the Charles Kunz Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship, the Betty J. Smith Scholarship, and Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Undergraduate Scholarship are the same. The criteria for determining awards are as follows, in descending priority: content/clarity of goal statement (45 percent); professional association involvement (45 percent); and grade point average, with emphasis placed on science/nursing courses (10 percent). Please note: Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply under the same category (undergraduate, masters, doctoral). However, qualified previous recipients may apply for the next category. Applicants may only apply under one category and only one application per category is allowed: Non-RN, undergraduate, or graduate. ENA members who have served in the immediate past three years on the ENA Board of Directors, ENAF Board of Trustees, or ENAF Scholarship Review Team are ineligible to apply for a scholarship.

Award Amount: The Charles Kunz Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship is for $3,000; the Betty J. Smith Scholarship is for $3,000; and the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Undergraduate Scholarship is for $3,000. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online from the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) website. The application must be typewritten, saved as a PDF file, and uploaded through the online application portal.In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two references (one must be from a current ENA member); proof of acceptance into an undergraduate nursing program (copy of acceptance letter and current transcript); proof of one year or more of pre-hospital work experience (copy of current EMT registration card, or letter from employer); verification of school tuition costs (a copy from the institution's official course catalog is preferred); a biographical data form; and a statement of professional/educational goals (this must include applicability to emergency nursing).All applications and supporting materials must be submitted online prior to the deadline date.
