The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must attend a Pennsylvania medical school.
  4. Must be in his/her second, third, or fourth year of medical school.
  5. Must be a resident of Pennsylvania for 12 or more months before registering as a medical student.
  6. Must be a South Asian Indian or the descendant of a South Asian Indian immigrant to the United States. The following lineage qualifies: self, parent(s), grandparent(s), or great-grandparent(s) of South Asian Indian heritage.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: South Asian Indians or descendants of South Asian Indian immigrants who are Pennsylvania residents attending a Pennsylvania medical school are eligible for this award. Students must be in their second, third, or fourth year of medical school and demonstrate financial aid.

Application requirements for the Endowment for South Asian Students of Indian Descent Scholarship Fund are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA
  • Application form
  • Letter of verif.
Additional Information: The scholarship exists to assist South Asian Indian medical students who demonstrate academic excellence but struggle with the escalating costs of a medical education.

Award Amount: $3,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.

Applications are available online from The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society. Applications are accepted beginning July 1. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit two reference letters, a letter verifying full-time enrollment, a one-page essay discussing the topics listed within the application, and the FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid). Applications must be postmarked by the deadline.
