Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of available awards depends on the amount of funding and the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a medical disability.
  3. Must be majoring in a health-related field.
  4. Must be a college sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student at the time of application.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Description: This award is available for U.S. college sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have a disability and are majoring in a health-related field. The American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) contributes to national, state, and local efforts to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities.

Additional Information: The mission of the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) is to contribute to national, state, and local efforts to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities and identify effective intervention strategies that reduce health disparities between people with disabilities and the general population. AAHD accomplishes its mission through research, education and advocacy at the national, state and community level. The AAHD Board of Directors Scholarship Committee will evaluate each of the applicants and make a decision in December of each calendar year. The AAHD Scholarship Award will be awarded in late January or early February. It is the discretion of the Scholarship Committee to determine how many scholarships will be awarded each year and the amount of each scholarship.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and additional information about this scholarship are available on the provider website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application form, students must submit the following items: a personal statement of up to three pages including the applicant's personal history, career goals and motivations, as well as why they feel they deserve the award; two letters of recommendation; an official copy of college transcripts for all courses attended; and an agreement to allow the American Association on Health and Disability to use his/her name, photo and/or story in future scholarship materials. All applications must be emailed to the address provided with each supporting document added as a PDF or Word attachments. Letters of recommendation may also be sent by U.S. postal mail. All materials must be postmarked or received by the deadline date.
