Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in work already completed in the program in which currently enrolled or in previous nursing program if no course work has been taken in the current program.
  4. Must have been a resident of North Carolina for 12 or more months prior to application.
  5. Must attend an eligible program in North Carolina. Online programs are also acceptable, if the student is a North Carolina resident.
  6. Must pursue a baccalaureate or master's degree.
  7. Must be a registered nurse.
  8. Must pursue further education in nursing.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Registered nurses who are residents of North Carolina and have been admitted to a bachelor's or master's degree program in nursing in North Carolina are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the Judy Knox Scholarship are:

Additional Information: In 2009, a scholarship fund was set up in honor of Judy Knox, long-time staff member of the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Judy was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in December 2007 and valiantly fought the disease until her death in March 2009. The Judy Knox Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, sex, religion, age or national origin. The Scholarship Committee will award the following point values when judging applicants for scholarship awards: applicant statement, up to 25 points; professional involvement, up to 25 points; grade point average, up to 10 points; honors, up to 10 points; certification, up to 15 points; community involvement, up to 10 points; letters of reference, up to 5 points.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the North Carolina Foundation for Nursing website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a statement of no more than 300 words presenting his/her reasons for pursuing additional education; two letters of reference from individuals knowledgeable of his/her character, contributions to community, reasons for pursuing additional education, and potential for contributions to nursing; unofficial transcript(s) of grades from diploma program for BSN student or BSN or current master's program for master's students; and proof of acceptance to a nursing program. All application materials must be submitted in a single packet, mailed to the address provided. Applications must be received by the deadline date.
