Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be accepted into a Kansas licensed practical nurse or registered nurse program (pre-nursing will not be funded).
  3. Must be a Kansas resident.
  4. Must attend a Kansas public or private college or university.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must be a high school graduate pursuing an undergraduate degree or a current undergraduate student.

Description: This award is available to Kansas undergraduate students who are pursing a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse program. Recipients must sign an agreement to practice nursing for one year for each year of scholarship support.

Additional Information: Financial need is considered if there are more applicants than available funding. The student must have a commitment from a sponsor, who will fund up to half of the scholarship and provide full-time employment to the recipient after licensure. An eligible sponsor is any adult care home, psychiatric hospital, medical care facility, home health agency, local health department or any state agency, which employs LPNs or RNs, licensed by the State of Kansas qualifies as a sponsor. Scholarship recipients work for the sponsor who provided a portion of the funds for one year for each year of scholarship support. If a recipient is unable to fulfill the service obligation, he/she will be subject to repaying the state portion of the scholarship received plus accrued interest at a rate equivalent to the interest rate applicable to loans made under the federal PLUS program at the time the agreement was first entered into plus five percentage points (currently, 11.41 percent).

Award Amount: Receive up to $4,500 per year  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $18,000.

Applications are available from the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) website. Students must complete the State of Kansas Student Aid Application online. In addition to the application, the student must also submit a signed sponsor agreement. The form is available on the KBOR website. The sponsor must provide partial scholarship funding and provide full-time employment upon licensure of the recipient. Please note: Students must also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority deadline of April 1. The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.
