Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must must be the dependent of current/retired NASA employees or employees with NASA for a period of two years as of January of the current year. There is no minimum period of employment requirement for eligible dependents of former NASA employees or former reimbursable detailees who died while employed by NASA.
  3. Must have a combined high school and college (if any) grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must pursue a course of study in a science or engineering field that will lead to a recognized undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university in the United States.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate college student.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: High school seniors or older students who are the dependents of current/retired NASA employees are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and plan to pursue a course of study in a science or engineering field that will lead to a recognized undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university in the United States.

Application requirements for the NASA College Scholarship Fund are:

  • Recommendation letter (3)
  • SAT/ACT scores (if not on transcript)
Additional Information: After meeting the minimum requirements, applicants will be ranked based on the following objective standards: (1) academic preparation, including all high school grades, any college grades, high school graduating class rank, and pattern of courses; (2) school activities; (3) community activities; (4) performance on recognized tests designed to measure ability and aptitude for higher education, for example, the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT); (5) written recommendations from instructors or other knowledgeable individuals not related to the applicant (limit of three), for example, school counselors, teachers and community leaders; and (6) a one-page statement of academic purpose by the applicant. The recipient and his/her sponsor shall be required to execute a written agreement with the corporation that he/she will comply with the scholarship program requirements as set out in the bylaws of the corporation. All applicants will be notified by mail of the results by approximately June 30.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, renewable for a maximum of $8,000 over six calendar years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $8,000.

Applications are available online from the NASAPeople Office of Human Capital Management website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit all college and high school transcripts and three letters of recommendation from instructors or other knowledgeable individuals not related to him/her. If the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) scores are not shown on the transcript, the applicant must furnish an official record of his/her scores by the application deadline. All completed application forms, transcripts, scores, reference letters, or materials must be received by the deadline date.
