Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Must be a member of Rho Chi Honor Society in good standing.
  5. Must be enrolled full time.
  6. Must be a senior pharmacy student currently enrolled in a dual-degree pathway leading to a professional degree in pharmacy and the Ph.D. or entering a first-year graduate program in an accredited school of pharmacy. The student cannot be currently enrolled in a graduate program.
  7. Must be in the final year of professional studies or have completed professional studies.

Description: This award is available to members of the Rho Chi Honor Society who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Students must be planning to enroll full-time in a graduate or Ph.D. program for pharmacy.

Application requirements for the Rho Chi-AFPE First Year Graduate School Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The award may be used for any purpose decided by the awardee and faculty sponsor that will enable the student to have a successful program (e.g. , student stipend, laboratory supplies, books, materials, travel, etc.) related to the program of graduate study. None of the funds shall be used for indirect costs by the institution. The recipient will be notified by April, and will be invited to attend an award ceremony held during the Annual Meeting of the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) in November.

Award Amount: $7,500 annually, non-renewable. Funding for successful applicants will be provided in two equal installments on Sept. 1, 2016, and Feb. 1, 2017. Funding will be released upon receipt of confirmation the student is enrolled in a pharmacy college graduate program for the Ph.D. Enrollment in a pharmacy college graduate program for the Ph.D. which must occur no later than 16 months after completion of his/her B.S. or Pharm.D. program.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,500.

Applications can be downloaded at the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) website or at the Rho Chi Honor Society website. In addition to the completed application form, the student must submit the following documents: a one-page description of present academic status including all previous scholarships and fellowships and memberships in professional, scientific, scholastic, and honor societies; a one-page account of involvement in professional and extracurricular activities; a one-page account of proposed expenses for the year specifying academic and personal expenses (including family costs, if married); a one- to two-page statement describing career goals; official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended; and official record or photocopy of GRE scores; and letters of reference from three individuals who are directly familiar with the student and can speak specifically about his/her educational achievements and capacity for graduate study. An original and three copies of all application materials must be mailed to the address provided, and must be received by the deadline date.
