In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a minority student. The following minority categories, as based on the Standards for the Classification of Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity set by the Office of Management and Budget, are eligible: American Indian or Alaska Native (a person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America, including Central America); Asian (a person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent, including Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam); Black or African American (a person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa, including island cultures such as Haiti); Hispanic or Latino (a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race); Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander (a person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands).
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Please note: Students must have their program director verify their grade point average in their core curriculum with at least one complete term of radiologic science courses.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. citizen national, or U.S. permanent resident. Individuals with a visitor, student, or G-series visa are not eligible.
  5. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited entry-level program to apply for this award. "Entry-level" refers to students who have not yet passed any of the primary pathway Registry exams (or equivalent). Please note: Students must finish their certificate or degree program after Sept. 1 of the year in which scholarship applications are due.
  6. Must be enrolled in a radiography, sonography, magnetic resonance, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine program.
  7. Must be a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). Please note: For entry-level applicants only, limited assistance with becoming an ASRT student member is available in November and December; students should contact the ASRT for more information.

Description: This award is for U.S. minority undergraduate students who are enrolled in an entry-level radiography, sonography, magnetic resonance, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine program. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; the student's program director must verify the grade point average based on one or more semesters of study.

Additional Information: This scholarship was created in honor of Royce Osborn and is funded through an endowment from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as well as through contributions from individual donors. An independent panel, the Scholarship Review Committee, evaluates applications and assigns scores to each section of the application based on standardized criteria. The combined scores are ranked, and recipients are recommended to the Board of Trustees for final approval. All awards are based on a combination of academic/professional achievements, essay content, financial need, and professional recommendation. All applicants are notified via email by May 1. Students may be awarded only one scholarship per year. If a student qualifies for more than one scholarship, he/she will receive the highest amount award for which he/she is selected.

Award Amount: $4,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available online from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Foundation website. Each student must apply via the online application system managed by AcademicWorks. Only one application need be submitted; the student will be considered for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. Each student must provide his/her personal tax information on the application unless claimed as a dependent; if claimed as a dependent, the student must report the income of the person(s) who claimed him/her as a dependent. Financial information should be based on the most recent tax return. Each student must also provide his/her ASRT member number, nine short answer responses of 200 words or less each, and the name and email address of a supervisor or manager who will submit an academic recommendation. The recommender will be sent instructions for submission of his/her recommendation. The complete online application must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on the deadline date.
