Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must attend North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
  4. Must be majoring in veterinary medicine and demonstrate a desire to pursue a career path in academic teaching and research.
  5. Must be in the second year of doctoral study at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. and Canadian students who are in the second year of a doctoral program in veterinary medicine at North Carolina State University.

Additional Information: The goals of the Hitchings Fund are to help advance the health sciences by making modest research grants to investigators who are early in their careers, to further science education, and to serve as a model that will encourage other donors to support scientific research through the Triangle Community Foundation, as well as other community foundations.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online on the Triangle Community Foundation (TCF) website. Applications must be submitted by NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine on behalf of its students. Application packets that contain more than the specified number of pages, or letters will be rejected out of fairness to candidates who adhere to the guidelines. In addition, application packets that are not properly organized or that do not include all of the requested materials will be rejected. Application packets must be organized as follows: an application form; sponsor's statement of nomination; a curriculum vitae of no more than two pages; a research plan of no more than three typed pages that addresses the points listed on the website; a proposed budget; and a letter of recommendation from the individual who is the primary mentor on the research project. Further details on all application components are available on the TCF website; the student is strongly encouraged to review these details thoroughly before assembling his/her application package. The application must be submitted by the deadline date.
