Number of Awards & Eligibility: One or more awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have been a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Society for one year or more.
  3. Must be planning to pursue a career in a conservation-related field.
  4. Must entering his/her junior or senior year of undergraduate study OR be pursuing graduate studies.
  5. Must be from a region that has a Soil and Water Conservation Society chapter. This includes the United States and Canada.
  6. Must enroll full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. undergraduate students who have been a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Society for one year or more. The applicant must not a family member of the Professional Development Committee; pursuing graduate level studies in a natural resource field.

Additional Information: The Melville H. Cohee Student Leader Conservation Scholarship was started in the early 1990s to honor student members who succeed as leaders in their studies, volunteerism, and work. Nominations for this scholarship come from all over the world to compete against other student society members who have interest in conservation or other resource-related fields. The Melville H. Cohee Student Leader Conservation Scholarships provides financial assistance to members of SWCS who are in their junior or senior year of full-time undergraduate study or are pursuing graduate level studies with a natural resource conservation orientation at a properly accredited college or university. Employees or immediate family members of employees of the Soil and Water Conservation Society are ineligible to apply. Those applicants who hold other SWCS scholarships or internships for this upcoming fall semester are also ineligible to apply.

Award Amount: Up to $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available on the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must submit the following: three letters of recommendation; a response oulining his/her background, accomplishments with the SWCS student chapter, conservation activities as a volunteer and/or employee, objectives of your educational program, and career plans; and a copy of his/her most recent transcript. Although online submission is encouraged, the applicant may submit letters of recommendation and transcripts by email, fax, or mail to the address provided. Materials must reach the SWCS by the deadline date.
