Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have had his/her legal domicile in Virginia for one year.
  2. Must be 60 years of age or older.
  3. Must attend a state-supported institution of higher education in Virginia.
  4. Must have a taxable income of not more than $15,000 in the preceding year.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Description: This award is for Virginia senior citizens who are taking courses at a state-supported postsecondary institution in Virginia. The student must be 60 years of age or older and must not have a taxable income of over $15,000.

Application requirements for the Virginia Senior Citizens Tuition Waiver are:

Additional Information: Eligible senior citizens may take courses at participating Virginia Public Institutions without paying tuition or required fees, except for course materials, under certain conditions. If the senior citizen has taxable income of not more than $15,000 in the preceding year, the individual may take a course for academic credit free of tuition and fees, except for fees established for the purpose of paying for course materials, such as laboratory fees. A senior citizen, regardless of income level, may audit a course that is given for academic credit or take a noncredit course free of tuition and fees, except for fees established for the purpose of paying for course materials, such as laboratory fees. Each participating institution will determine all aspects of the student's eligibility. Students should contact their institution for additional details.

Award Amount: This award waives the cost of tuition and fees at participating Virginia public institutions.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,276.
