Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must demonstrate academic achievement by having a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  2. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate).
  3. Must plan to attend college in Hawaii.
  4. Must be of Filipino ancestry.
  5. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  6. Must be a graduate of a high school in Hawaii.
  7. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  8. This award is for U.S. students.
  9. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Description: This scholarship is available for Hawaii undergraduate and graduate students who graduated from a high school in Hawaii. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher. Preference given to individuals of Filipino ancestry.

Additional Information: This scholarship was established to honor Minerva Jean Falcon, the Honolulu Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines from 1996-2000. While in Hawaii, Ambassador Falcon dedicated herself to helping many organizations and promoting projects that benefit all communities throughout the state. Ambassador Falcon established this scholarship in the spirit of giving back to the state of Hawaii, and with generous contributions from many community members, the scholarship will live on for years to come. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $750 annually, non-renewable. Students may re-apply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Note: Students WILL NOT be able to submit their application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST.
