Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding and the number of qualified applicants. In prior years, 10 awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must be accepted in a program for manufacturing engineering or industrial engineering in the United States.
  4. Must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be accepted in a graduate program.
  6. Must reside in and attend an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. and international graduate students who are majoring in manufacturing engineering and technology. The applicant must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher to be eligible.

Application requirements for the E. Wayne Kay Graduate Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Fellowship awards are made only to those students who have proven scholastic ability, exemplary character and leadership capability, and who have demonstrated their potential for future leadership in the profession. Preference for foundation scholarship and fellowship awards is given to students who are enrolled in a true manufacturing degree program at the A.A.S., B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. level unless specified differently in an announcement. Students enrolled in manufacturing engineering or manufacturing engineering technology or other closely related field may be given preference. SME membership by the applicant or family member is not a consideration in awarding scholarships except when two or more applicants have equal qualifications or are stated as a requirement in a specific announcement. The scholarship review committee and other ad hoc review committees will evaluate applications during March of the award year. Their recommendations for the top candidates will be presented to the SME Education Foundation Board at their annual meeting in May. Each applicant will be notified of the final decision by the end of June.

Award Amount: The minimum award amount is $1,000, but the student may receive a higher amount if more funding is available. This award is non-renewable. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward tuition, fees or books.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
