Number of Awards & Eligibility: 61 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must attend or plan to attend an accredited four year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  6. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  7. Must be a first generation college student. Preference is given to college sophomores.

Description: This scholarship is available for Hawaii undergraduate and graduate students who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: All applicants for this award must demonstrate the following characteristics: financial need; good moral character; potential for filling a community need; accomplishment; motivation; initiative; vision; and intention of returning to or staying in Hawai'i to work. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $1,508 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.Please note: Recipients must maintain a grade point average of 3.3 to 3.8.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $91,988.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the provider's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed at the provider's website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. The application must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
