Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be pursuing a master's, specialist, or doctoral degree in education, or be engaged in dissertation research.
  3. Must be a member of Phi Delta Kappa International.
  4. Must be a full-time student during the year of the award.
  5. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in an eligible graduate program.

Application requirements for the PDK Past Presidents’ Graduate Fellowship in Educational Leadership are:

Additional Information: These fellowships are designed to support Kappan graduate students pursuing master's, specialist, or doctoral degrees. The graduate fellowship program honors three former international presidents; each president's named scholarship is awarded to a different category of graduate student. The Emery Stoops Endowed Fellowship is awarded to students pursuing graduate studies, with a preference to applicants attending the University of Southern California (all other considerations being equal). The Charles R. Foster Fellowship is awarded to students pursuing a master's degree or specialist studies. The Howard M. Soule Memorial Fellowship is awarded to students pursuing doctoral studies or thesis/dissertation research.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Award payments will be made to the recipient's institution by Sept. 1.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available online on the Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) International website and must be completed online. The application process opens on January 2nd and closes on April 3rd. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: transcripts of all graduate work; a position paper of 1,000 words or less addressing his/her role as an educational leader; a one-paragraph summary of his/her involvement and activities with PDK; two letters of recommendation (one from a major professor and one from a professional colleague, supervisor, or peer attesting to his/her qualifications); and a prospectus or outline of his/her research (required only if the student is applying for an award based on thesis/dissertation research). Completed applications and all supporting documentation must be submitted through the online application portal by the deadline date.
