Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 5 fellows were selected for 2020-2021.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program and making progress toward a Ph.D.
  3. Must be an ethnic minority or member of an underrepresented demographic population.
  4. Must be majoring in sociology.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Description: This award is available for minority students who are currently enrolled in and have completed at least one year of a graduate program in sociology and are working toward a Ph.D. in the field.

Additional Information: Through its Minority Fellowship Program (MFP), the American Sociological Association (ASA) supports the development and training of sociologists of color in any sub-area or specialty in the discipline. Funded by generous annual contributions from organizations such as Alpha Kappa Delta, Sociologists for Women in Society, the Midwest Sociological Society, the Association for Black Sociologists, Southwestern Sociological Association, as well as membership donations, MFP seeks to attract talented doctoral students to ensure a diverse and highly trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles in research that is relevant to today’s global society.

Award Amount: $18,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $90,000.
