In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of California.
  3. Must attend a four-year accredited college/university in the state of California.
  4. Must be pursuing a career in the agricultural industry.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate students who are residents of and attending college in California. Students must be pursuing a career in the agricultural industry.

Additional Information: The California Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation was organized to give aid to students with a desire to pursue a career in the agricultural industry. The scholarships are awarded annually based upon academic achievement, career goals, extracurricular activities, determination, leadership skills, and a commitment to study agriculture. In the spring, a group of finalists will be selected to be interviewed by the foundation board. Finalists will be notified of the date, time and place of the interview in the notice of selection. Finalists should understand that they will have only a few weeks' advance notice of the interview date. Students are not required to be members of the farm bureau. Students entering or attending a junior college are not eligible.

Award Amount: $1,800 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Past recipients are invited to re-apply each year. Each successive application must include two new, current letters of recommendation and a current college transcript (high school transcripts are not required for past recipients).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $15,000.

Applications are available on the California Farm Bureau Federation website by clicking the 'Scholarship Foundation' link under the 'Programs' heading. Applications are accepted between Dec. 1 and Feb. 1 of every year. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: high school transcripts and junior college transcripts, if applicable; college transcripts; an essay on the topic of the most important educational or personal experience that led him/her to pursue a university education; and two current letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation must have been written within the last six months and contain the name of the applicant, comments on the applicant's character and abilities, and an opinion of his/her ability to profit from a college education. A parent or close relative cannot be considered as a reference. The name and occupation of each person writing a letter is required. Application packets must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
