Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior at time of application and plan to attend post-high school education.
  4. Must be a resident of Florida.
  5. Must attend a Florida high school.
  6. Must live in a household separated by divorce.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors whose parents are permanently separated or divorced. Students must be Florida residents and attend a Florida high school.

Application requirements for the Children of Divorce Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: The winning essays shall be selected by a committee of child custody attorneys. Winning essays will show: how the student's parents still communicated after the divorce; how both parents took steps to work together in a co-parenting role; and how both parents showed a united front to ensure the student grew up in a loving household. The winning essays shall be published online in a special section of the Ayo & Iken website showing examples of excellent parenting skills. The scholarship award will be paid directly to each winner, preferably at their high school awards event. Family, friends, or involved parties related to past or current cases involving the Law Firm of Ayo and Iken (and/or The Divorce Center P.A.) are not eligible.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online on the Law Firm of Ayo & Iken website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: an essay of at least 2,000 words describing how his/her parents continue to work together despite being part of a separated household; and a personal letter stating his/her interest (no required format). All required application materials must be mailed to the address provided by the deadline date.
