Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  4. Must attend an accredited school located within Vermont and approved for federal Title IV funding (Pell grants, Stafford loans, PLUS loans).
  5. Must currently be under the custody of the Vermont Commissioner of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) or have been under DCF custody for at least six months between the ages of 16 and 18.
  6. Must be 18 to 24 years of age if not currently under the custody of DCF.
  7. Must be an incoming or current undergraduate student.

Description: This scholarship is available for Vermont undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need. The student must currently be under the custody of the Vermont Commissioner of the Department of Children and Families (DCF), or be 18-24 years of age and have been under DCF custody for at least six months between the ages of 16 and 18.

Additional Information: This scholarship is administered with the proceeds from a trust fund established through an annual appropriation from State of Vermont's general fund. Funding for this program is conditional upon annual legislative approval. All applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Award Amount: Scholarships generally range from $1,000 to $2,000, and may not exceed $3,000. The amount disbursed cannot exceed the recipient's total costs (tuition, fees, room, and board) minus his/her expected family contribution (EFC) as calculated on the FAFSA and all other sources of gift aid combinedAll scholarships are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
