In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to attend Harvey Mudd College in California.
  3. Must be admitted as a first-year college student.
  4. Must demonstrate superior academic achievement.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  6. Must attend a college or university in California.

Description: This award is for U.S. high school seniors who are planning to attend Harvey Mudd College. The student must demonstrate superior academic achievement and ability to contribute to the college community.

Application requirements for the Harvey S. Mudd Merit Award are:

  • Essays (2)
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • SAT subject scores
  • $70 app. fee
  • Interview (opt.)
Additional Information: This award will be offered to the top students in the admitted pool who demonstrate superior academic achievement and ability to contribute to the Harvey Mudd College community.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, renewable for up to four years. The award will be automatically renewed at the close of the first year. In order to renew the award in subsequent years, the student must maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or higher and continuous full-time enrollment (with the exception of study abroad or an approved leave of absence).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $40,000.

Scholarship information is available online on the Harvey Mudd College (HMC) website. To be considered for the scholarship, the student must apply for admission to HMC. A separate scholarship application is not required. Admission application information is available online at www.hmc.edu/admission/apply/first-year-students/. Required admission application materials are as follows: a completed Common Application (www.commonapp.org); $70 application fee; two essays of 500 words each (topics available on the Common Application); scores from two SAT subject exams, one of which must be Math II; an official SAT or ACT score report; a secondary school supplement completed by the student's high school counselor (must include a counselor letter of recommendation; a teacher recommendation from a math or science teacher; a teacher recommendation from a humanities or social science teacher; an official high school transcript; a college/university transcript, if applicable; and an optional admission interview. Admission applications must be submitted by Nov. 15 for early decision I, and by Jan. 5 for early decision II and regular decision.
