Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must have a combined math/verbal/writing SAT of 1120 or higher and/or an ACT of 21 or higher.
  5. Must be a resident of Kaufman, Van Zandt, Wood and Smith counties in Texas.

Description: This award is available for high school seniors and undergraduate students who are residents of Kaufman, Van Zandt, Wood and Smith counties of Texas. Students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, plus a combined math/verbal/writing SAT of 1550 or higher and/or an ACT of 21 or higher.

Additional Information: Selection for the John and Rheba Myers Scholarship will be based on academic achievement, unmet financial need, and the student's contribution and involvement in school and community activities. The Communities Foundation of Texas has been a partner with local individuals, families and businesses for raising the quality of life in the Texas community since 1953. Providing scholarships to deserving students is an important part of this mission, in the hopes that financial assistance will help these students to reach their full potential in high schools, colleges and continuing education across the country.

Award Amount: Up to full tuition and fees at an accredited college or university. Students may be eligible to renew, depending on academic performance.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $40,000.

Applications and additional information are available on The Communities Foundation of Texas website. To apply for this award, students must first register an account with The Communities Foundation of Texas. Upon registration, students will be prompted to supply personal information for the general application. In addition to the online general application, the student must submit the following: evidence of eligibility for admission to an accredited four-year college or university (transcript, record, or endorsement letter by school official on school stationery will suffice); and an essay of a suggested length of 500 to 1,000 words on one of the topics listed on the application. All applications, essay responses, and electronic supporting documents must be submitted online prior to the deadline.
