In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. Must be legally blind.
  4. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: This award is for U.S. citizens who are legally blind. Applications are accepted at the beginning of the student's senior year in high school. Award selection and payment is made one year following the deadline for use in college.

Application requirements for the Lighthouse Guild Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Lighthouse Guild has created an annual scholarship program for college-bound high school students who are legally blind. Applications will be accepted from students at the beginning of their senior year, with recipients selected and scholarships awarded later in that academic year.

Award Amount: Up to $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available online on the Lighthouse Guild website. All applications must be completed online through the website data entry form. At the time of application submission, the following items must be uploaded in .tif, .jpeg or .pdf format: proof of legal blindness in the form of a statement from a state rehabilitation agency, an ophthalmologist or an optometrist; proof of US citizenship such as a passport, birth certificate, naturalization papers or proof of legal residency; and documentation of academic achievement including copies of school transcripts and copies of SAT and/or ACT results. The following items must also be submitted at the time of application in Microsoft Word format: three letters of recommendation, one of which should attest to the candidate's academic skills (each must include the name, address and telephone number of the person writing the reference); a personal statement of 500 words or less describing the educational and personal goals of the applicant; and a personal statement that describes the influence of an outstanding teacher on the applicant's education. The application process must be completed and all supporting documentation attached in the proper file type format no later than the deadline date.
