Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually. This year, five scholarships will be offered. The NJCS Scholarship Program consists of the following named scholarships: One recipient will be selected for the Chester M. Vernon Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship Program. One recipient will be selected for the Rick Arkans Eagle Scout Scholarship Program. One recipient will be selected for the Frank L. Weil Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship Program and two second-place scholarship awards will be awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have received the Eagle Scout Award.
  2. Must be a high school senior.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be an active member in the Boy Scouts of America.
  6. Must be an active member of a synagogue and must have received the Ner Tamid or Etz Chaim religious emblem.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The National Jewish Committee on Scouting Scholarship Program is available for Eagle scouts who are high school seniors and are active members of a synagogue. Application requirements for the National Jewish Committee on Scouting Scholarship Program are:

  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Application form
Additional Information: Eligible applicants must: Be a registered, active member of a Boy Scout troop, Varsity Scout team, or Venturing crew; Have received the Eagle Scout Award; Be an active member of a synagogue and must have received the Ner Tamid or Etz Chaim religious emblem; Have demonstrated practical citizenship in his synagogue, school, Scouting unit, and community; Be enrolled in an accredited high school and in his final year at the time of selection.

Award Amount: The recipient of the Chester M. Vernon Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship, renewable for three years. The recipient of the Rick Arkans Eagle Scout Scholarship Program will receive a $1,000 scholarship, non-renewable. The recipient of the Frank L. Weil Memorial Eagle Scout Scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and two runners up will received $500. These awards are also non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.
