Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
  2. Must be a licensed radio amateur with a technician class or higher license.
  3. Preference will be given to high school seniors.
  4. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  5. Must be a resident of the area covered by the ARRL Western New York Section. The following counties are included: Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Erie, Genesee, Herkimer, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Niagara, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego, Otsego, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne, Wyoming, Yates.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is awarded to a licensed radio amateur (technician class or higher license) who resides in the area covered by the ARRL Western New York Section. The applicant must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher to be eligible; preference will be given to high school seniors.

Additional Information: The Norman E. Strohmeier, W2VRS, Memorial Scholarship is available for residents of ARRL's Western New York section who have an amateur radio license. Preference will be given to high school seniors who have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher. Recipients are typically notified by mid-May by USPS mail and email.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available on the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Foundation website. Applications must be completed online. Students need only submit one application for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The student must provide contact information for one educational reference, one character reference, and one social reference on the online application. The student must also submit a copy of his/her academic transcript from his/her most recently completed school year to the email address provided. The transcript must be scanned and submitted as a PDF.
