Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all eligible students will be considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must be a high school senior or older and be enrolled at an eligible institution within four years of high school graduation (or equivalent).
  3. Must be a resident of Tennessee.
  4. Must have a composite ACT score of 18 or higher or an SAT score of 860 or higher.
  5. Must plan on enrolling in no less than six credit hours per semester.
  6. Must be admitted to an eligible postsecondary institution in Tennessee.
  7. This award is for U.S. students.
  8. Must be classified as an eligible foster child as defined by the state of Tennessee.
  9. Must have a high school grade point average of 2.75 or higher.

Description: This award is available to Tennessee residents who are planning to attend an eligible postsecondary institution in Tennessee. Students must be a foster child and meet the high school requirements for the Tennessee HOPE scholarship or the Tennessee HOPE Access grant.

Additional Information: The Tennessee HOPE Foster Child Tuition Grant is a state program, administered through the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation, established to provide need-based aid to Tennessee residents who were custody of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services who are planning to attend an eligible public college, university, or private college in Tennessee. The award is based on the financial need and merit. Student must meet the high school requirements for the Tennessee HOPE scholarship or the Tennessee HOPE Access grant to be eligible for this award. Students should contact the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) for additional information about the HOPE scholarship and the HOPE Access program. For purposes of this award, an eligible foster child is defined as one who was in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Children's Services for: at least one year after reaching 14 years of age; at least one year after reaching 14 years of age and placed for adoption by the Department of Children's Services or one of its adoption contract agencies and the adoption was finalized; or at least one year and placed in permanent guardianship by the Department of Children's Services after reaching 14 years of age.

Award Amount: The award covers the cost of attendance at an eligible public postsecondary institution. For students attending an eligible four-year or two-year independent postsecondary institution the award amount may not exceed the statewide average tuition and mandatory fees for a public four-year or two-year postsecondary institution.Awards are renewable for up to six additional years provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,763.

Additional information about this award is available from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) College Pays website. To apply, students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor for state scholarship/grant consideration after January 1st but on or before Feb. 1 to be considered for the spring and summer semesters, or by Sept. 1 to be considered for the fall semester.
