In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be currently attending a high school in the United States or the U.S. territories.
  3. Must be a high school student at time of application.

Description: This essay contest is open to all high school students in the United States and United States Territories. Students must submit a 1,000-word essay on the current year's topic.

Additional Information: The National World War II Museum will accept the first 500 valid entries only. The applicant will be notified if his/her entry is accepted. Essays will be judged for originality, clarity of expression, adherence to contest theme, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. This is not a research paper about Anne Frank or World War II, but the opinions in the essay should be backed by historical evidence from WWII as well as modern-day events. Winners will be notified and announced in May.

Award Amount: The first-place winner will receive $1,000; the second-place winner will receive $750; and the third-place winner will receive $500. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

To apply, the student must submit an online submission form on The National World War II Museum website that contains his/her 1,000-word essay on the current year's theme. The applicant's essay must meet the following guidelines: have a title; be typed and double-spaced in a 12-point font; be formatted in a pc compatible word processing program (such as MS Word); have one-inch margins; and include page numbers. The applicant must also have a cover sheet with his/her essay that contains the following typed information: his/her name and grade; school name; address (including city, state and postal code); phone number with area code; his/her teacher's name; his/her email address; and his/her parent's/guardian's name. Only one essay per applicant may be submitted. Essays must be electronically submitted to The National D-Day Museum by 5:00 p.m. CST on the deadline date.
