Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a 4-H member.
  3. Must attend an accredited institution of higher learning in North Carolina.
  4. Must plan to enroll full time.
  5. Must plan to enroll as an undergraduate.
  6. Must be a resident of North Carolina.

Description: This scholarship is available for North Carolina high school seniors who are 4-H members. Students must plan to attend an institution of higher education in North Carolina in the fall of the year that they apply for the scholarship.

Additional Information: Please note: All eligible students must have filed an application for admission to at least one institution of higher learning, and must arrange for and take the SAT and/or ACT. It is the student's responsibility to make all arrangements for college admissions. Selection will be based on the following: 4-H record (50 percent); scholastic achievement as measured by performance in high school courses (25 percent); and college aptitude as measured by performance on college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT (25 percent). Recipients will be selected in March. Recipients must attend the 4-H Scholarships and Awards Luncheon held during the N.C. 4-H Congress. Recipients may be required to attend the CALS Donor Recognition Event in the fall.

Award Amount: $750 annually, non-renewable. All 4-H scholarships will be paid directly to the college or university. They will not be made payable to the recipient nor his/her parents.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

Applications are available in the fall through each county cooperative extension office in North Carolina or by calling the 4-H Youth Development Department at the number listed. Applications are also available online on the North Carolina 4-H website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a photograph of himself/herself attached to an 8 1/2" by 11" sheet of paper (see the application for details on assembling the photograph page); an official high school transcript listing SAT and/or ACT scores and class rank; two letters of recommendation, one based on academic achievement and the other based on 4-H accomplishments; and a two-page resume following the requirements listed on the application. Parents/guardians may also submit a sealed confidential letter stating special financial concerns. It should be placed in an envelope and sealed before inclusion in the application package. The envelope should be labeled 'confidential'. One application packet may be used to apply for multiple 4-H scholarships. The student should include one original and three copies of all application materials. The complete application package must be turned in to his/her county 4-H agent by the county deadline; county deadlines are available by contacting the 4-H agent. County 4-H staff will then enter the student's application online and mail any appropriate materials by the final deadline.
