In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, OR a Canadian citizen who is studying in the U.S.
  3. Must be a current high school student.
  4. Must be 19 years of age or younger.

Description: This award is for U.S. high school students. Students must create a short video that warns about the dangers of underage drinking.

Additional Information: Videos submitted to the Courageous Persuaders® competition will not be returned, and may be displayed, duplicated, edited and exhibited for educational or promotional purposes as deemed appropriate by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) Education Foundation, Inc.

Award Amount: National scholarships: two awards valued at $2,000 and one award valued at $1,000. For Michigan students only: one $250, one $500, one $1,000, three $1,500, one $2,000 and one Grand Prize at $3,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,432.

Applications are will be available online at the Courageous Persuaders website. There are two ways for students to enter this competition: (1) upload a video to YouTube, Vimeo or another Internet website that hosts videos; or (2) mail the video (DVD/VHS) to the address provided. The video must be no longer than 30 seconds and send a message to middle school students about the dangers of underage drinking. No alcohol can be consumed in the video and all bottles/cans must be generic (no brand labels). No drinking games will be allowed in the videos, as well. Other inappropriate footage that will constitute disqualification includes: dangerous stunts, vulgar language or behavior, unsafe driving, and other distasteful behavior (see website for full details). Students cannot show company names or logos in their videos, including those on clothing or hats/caps. Any video that glamorizes or encourages drinking will be disqualified. The only music and sound effects allowed must come from one of three sources: (a) Courageous Persuaders® Free-Use Music (see website for details); (b) Garage Band Software, consistent with the Garage Band Software License Agreement; or (c) the students' own music created and performed alone or with team members. Students may work alone or in teams, and may submit more than one video for consideration. Videos and entry forms must be received (or uploaded) by 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
