Number of Awards & Eligibility: Contingent on availability of funds, the Nissan Scholarship Selection Committee will determine the number of Nissan Scholarships to be awarded annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have achieved a grade point average of 2.5 or higher after seven or more semesters.
  3. Must have an ACT score of 20 or higher. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only accepted scores for the state eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable. An SAT score of 940 or higher may be substituted for the ACT score.
  4. Must be a legal resident of Mississippi.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  6. Must plan to attend a Mississippi public community college or university.
  7. Must be accepted for enrollment as a full-time student.
  8. Must be a graduating high school senior in the current year.
  9. Must attend a high school in Mississippi.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Mississippi high school seniors who plan to enroll full time at a Mississippi public community college or university. Students must have high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher, and scored a 20 or higher on the ACT or a 940 or higher on the SAT.

Additional Information: All students must demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in extracurricular activities, and must demonstrate financial need by filing the FAFSA. Selection of the scholarship recipients will be based on the following criteria and scoring percentages: academic achievement, 50 percent; extracurricular activities, work, leadership, community involvement, 15 percent; quality of essay, 15 percent; and demonstrated financial need, 20 percent.

Award Amount: The award pays for full tuition, required fees, and a book allowance. The length of the scholarship varies depending upon the certificate or degree the student pursues. This scholarship can be awarded up to a maximum of two years of undergraduate work at a Mississippi public two-year college and up to four years of undergraduate work at a public four-year university. If a student receives the Nissan Scholarship for two years at a public two-year college, they will be eligible for up to a maximum of two years undergraduate work at a public four-year university.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.

Applications are available online from the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid (MOSFA) website. In addition to the completed online application, each student must submit the following supporting documents: a signed copy of the first two pages of his/her parent's (or his/her, if independent) Mississippi resident individual income tax return for the current tax filing year; a valid copy of his/her Mississippi driver's license; an official high school transcript; ACT/SAT scores; a resume; and a signed essay of no more than 200 words describing how his/her plans for the future and his/her college major support the automotive industry in Mississippi. Each student must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.edu, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications and all supporting materials must be submitted by the deadline date. Please note: The dates are important as the number of awards and recipients are dependent upon available funds.
