  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a resident of the U.S. or Canada.

Description: This award is for young people aged 8-18 who have completed an extraordinary service project. Applicants should be between the ages of 8 and 18, and permanent residents of the United States or Canada. The Barron Prize does not discriminate against its applicants based on race, color, ethnicity, and etc.

Additional Information: Nominees must have organized and led a truly extraordinary service activity which has clearly benefited other people, our fellow creatures, or the planet we share. The nominee's service activity must have been initiated and motivated primarily by the winner himself or herself. While outside help may have been obtained, the activity must be primarily the nominee's own creation. The service activity cannot have been done solely to complete an assignment for school or work. Nominees must have accomplished something with inspirational value—something that could inspire others to make a difference. Nominees must have done more than survive a difficult personal challenge. Their heroism must have made an impact on the world beyond themselves. Nominees may or may not have received any recognition for their heroic work. But fame itself shall not have been a motivating factor.

Award Amount: $10,000 to be used towards the recipient's higher education or service project.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

The Barron Prize honors outstanding young people, ages 8 to 18, who have shown leadership and courage in developing and implementing an extraordinary service project. The project must clearly benefit other people, our fellow creatures, or the planet we share. Winners must have demonstrated strong personal initiative as well as positive spirit, courage, intelligence, generosity, and high moral purpose. While outside help may have been obtained, the activity must be largely the winner's own creation. The service activity cannot have been done primarily to complete an assignment for work or school. The Barron Prize places significant emphasis on recognizing young people who help the environment. Nominations must be made by adults who have solid knowledge of the nominee and his or her work, but who are not related to the nominee. This could include teachers, librarians, civic or religious leaders, among others. Completed nomination packets must be received online or via postal mail by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
