Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards will be offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must have a history of community service.
  4. Must graduate from or have graduated from a Baltimore city public high school.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a resident of Maryland.

Description: This award is available to Baltimore public high school seniors who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a history of community service.

Application requirements for the Baltimore Distinguished Scholar Award are:

  • Personal statement
  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: The City of Baltimore established this scholarship program to enable Baltimore City students to continue their education on a collegiate level. This renewable scholarship will be based on financial need, academic achievement and community service. The applicant must be planning to attend a two-year or four-year college or university beginning with the fall semester.

Award Amount: $2,500 scholarships available.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Information is available online at the CollegeBound Foundation website. Applications are only available online through the online portal. In addition to completing the CollegeBound Foundation Competitive Scholarship Application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation; a copy of his/her college acceptance letter(s); a typed essay addressing the topic listed on the application (if applicable); community service verification(s) (if applicable); and a copy of his/her recent high school transcript, including the first semester of the senior year. If applying for a scholarship that requires demonstrated financial need, the applicant must include the following: a copy of his/her Student Aid Report (SAR) or a copy of his/her parents' most recent tax return; a financial aid award letter from the college he/she will attend (the applicant should send a copy of the financial aid award letter as soon as it is received); and a Maryland Higher Education Commission Financial Aid Award Letter (if applicable). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials must be received by the deadline.
