Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Orange County, California.
  3. Must be graduating from a high school in the Newport Mesa Unified School District (Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Estancia, Orange Coast Middle College or Newport Harbor).
  4. Must plan to attend the University of California at Berkeley.
  5. Must have a demonstrated record of community service and leadership.
  6. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  8. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  9. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Description: This award is available for U.S. high school seniors who are residents of Orange County, California, graduating from a high school in the Newport Mesa Unified School District. Student must attend the University of California at Berkeley and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Additional Information: The Brad Evans Foundation Fund Scholarship was established by the Evans family to honor their son and brother whose life was characterized by the qualities of integrity, loyalty, and commitment. This scholarship was established to assist a talented and versatile student with first-year expenses at Berkeley. Preference may be given to a student who has shown an outstanding record in his/her chosen field.

Award Amount: Awards will generally be $5,000 annually, depending on the level of financial need, cost of tuition, available funding and any other special circumstances. The award amount will be determined at the discretion of the scholarship review committee. Awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available from the Orange County Community Foundation website and must be completed online. Each applicant must create an account using his/her username, chosen password, name and email address. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must upload his/her most recent official transcript; his/her expected family contribution (found on the SAR received after submitting the FAFSA); the name and email address of his/her counselor or school staff member who is authorized to verify his/her grade point average; information regarding his/her or his/her parents' most recent income tax return; a general essay (no more than 600 words) on the topic listed within the application; an optional essay of (no more than 600 words) on his/her special circumstances; and contact information for two recommenders. Each recommender will receive an email with instructions on how to submit a letter of recommendation. Paper copies of recommendation letters will not be accepted. Students must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
