Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a resident of and attend a high school in Linn County, Iowa.
  5. Must demonstrate a commitment to community service.

Additional Information: Established in 2003, the the Charles and Edith Glidden Scholarship Fund provides funding each year to students in Linn County, Iowa who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to community service.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in December for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online from the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation (GCRCF) website. Please note: Students may apply for all GCRCF scholarships for which they are qualified, but must submit a separate application for each. As part of the completed application, the student must provide a statement of goals that is 250 words or less. The statement must include: the student's educational, career, and employment goals; future plans and how these plans will help him/her to achieve his/her goals; information about any circumstances of a personal, cultural, or financial nature that he/she has had to face; and an explanation of how the information in the statement explains how he/she fits the specific criteria for the scholarship. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit his/her latest academic transcript, an academic letter of reference, and a non-academic letter of reference. The student must also submit a copy of his/her Statement of Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). The Statement of EFC is generated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at college financial aid offices, and at high school guidance offices. Application materials must be submitted and received no later than the deadline date. Students attending Jefferson, Kennedy, Linn-Mar, Marion, Prairie, Washington, Xavier should apply at their high school guidance offices. Other students in Linn County must download the general application form from GCRCF and submit the completed applications to GCRCF.
