Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a currently enrolled student who will be an undergraduate student in the fall. Students must have at least one semester or quarter of study in the next academic year.
  4. Must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited civil engineering or related program.
  5. Must have demonstrated a commitment to either water supply and/or environmental engineering.
  6. Must be a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in good standing at time of application and award.

Description: Undergraduate students who are enrolled in civil engineering programs and have demonstrated a commitment to either water supply and/or environmental engineering are eligible for this award. Students must be members of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Additional Information: The John Lenard Civil Engineering Scholarship was endowed in 2008 by John Lenard, P.E., F.ASCE. Students may apply for all ASCE scholarships for which they are qualified. Selection of not more than two recipients is made by the Society Awards Committee or its designee and approved by the Executive Committee of the Board of Direction. The committee reserves the right to recommend that no award be made in a particular year if no meritorious applications are received. Selection is based on appraisal of the applicant's award justification, stated interest in water supply and/or environmental engineering, educational plan, academic performance and standing, development potential, leadership capacity, and financial need. The recipient/s will be notified of selection in May by the Executive Director of the Society.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarships will be awarded based on funds available. Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition and tuition-related expenses and will be disbursed in the fall term.Previous recipients of this scholarship are eligible to apply in any succeeding competition for these awards provided the other requirements of eligibility are satisfied.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
