Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Must be working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in dairy or animal science or other major in preparation for a career in the dairy industry.
  5. Must be a current college freshman.
  6. Must be involved in volunteer work.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. freshman students majoring in dairy or animal science are eligible to apply for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and be involved in volunteer work.

Additional Information: This scholarship sponsored by the Core Scholarship Fund, a fund donated by the Friends of Maurice E. Core, longtime leader in the Jersey breed and National Dairy Shrine. The scholarship is based on leadership abilities, volunteerism, activities, and plans for the future. The winner will be recognized at the National Dairy Shrine Awards Banquet.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Previous scholarship winners may not reapply; previous applicants who did not win a scholarship may reapply if still qualified.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the National Dairy Shrine (NDS) website. Each student should download the application and type in his/her responses. The file should then be saved as Core.Last Name.First Name.doc and emailed to the address provided. The applicant must also submit two letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a faculty member who is familiar with his/her activities and academic achievements, and an official transcript showing all high school and college courses and grades. The letters must be emailed to the address provided, and the transcript must be mailed to the address provided. (Only one transcript is required for all scholarships for which the student wishes to apply, although separate applications must be submitted.) Applications must be submitted by midnight CST on the deadline date.
