Number of Awards & Eligibility: Four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior.
  4. Must attend a high school in the Better Business Bureau of Central North Carolina's service area (includes Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Randolph and Rockingham counties, and the city of Thomasville).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors who attend a high school in the Better Business Bureau of Central North Carolina's service area (Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Randolph and Rockingham counties, and the city of Thomasville). Students will be judged in the areas of leadership, community service, academics, and an essay; students must also obtain a letter of recommendation from a BBB Accredited Business affiliated with the Better Business Bureau of Central North Carolina.

Application requirements for the Student Ethics Scholarship Award are:

  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
  • Descriptions of activities/honors/awards
Additional Information: Judging will be conducted by an independent panel of judges. Judging criteria will be based upon leadership, community service, academics, and the essay. The student's documentation provided for each of these areas will be the primary selection criteria. A winner may plan to attend any accredited college, university, community college, or trade school, with either a two-year or four-year degree program, in a field of the student's choice. Family members of a BBB board member and BBB employees are not eligible for the scholarship award. Family members of BBB Accredited Business owners are eligible.

Award Amount: One award at $7,500, one at $5,000, and two awards at $2,500. All scholarships are provided on a one-time basis and are not renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,375.

Applications are available online on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Central North Carolina website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: a description of any extracurricular work- or school-related activities, including awards/honors or offices held; a description of activities outside of school and within his/her community, such as church or special community activities, including awards/honors or offices held; a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a description of his/her postsecondary educational plans and any awards received relating to academic achievement; an essay of approximately 500 words describing an ethical dilemma he/she has faced and how he/she handled the situation; and a letter of recommendation from a BBB Accredited Business affiliated with the Better Business Bureau of Central North Carolina. A list of such businesses is available online on the BBB of Central North Carolina website. Applications may be completed online, mailed, or submitted in person. If mailed or submitted in person, applications should be compiled in a ring binder with appropriate tabs for each category. The signed entry form should be placed first. Entries will not be returned. Completed entries must be received by the deadline date.
