Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be African American.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student.
  4. Must reside in the six county Kansas City metropolitan area: Jackson, Platte, Clay and Cass counties in Missouri, Wyandotte and Johnson counties in Kansas.

Description: The Black Community Scholarship Fund is available for African American students in the greater Kansas City Area. Preference will be given to students majoring in Healthcare, Education, Youth Development, Liberal and Performing Arts or STEM.

Additional Information: The Black Community Scholarship Fund is provided annually to African American students in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area. Applications for the award are highly competitive, and preference will be given to students who are majoring in healthcare, education, youth development, liberal and performing arts or STEM. Additional preference will be given to students who demonstrate a commitment to community service through a consistent record of volunteer work and participation with local community groups and organizations. By applying, students agree to perform a minimum of 16 hours community service for the Black Community Fund if selected for a scholarship award. The administration and management of this scholarship is provided through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. Originally founded in 1978, the GKCCF was designed to provide a single point of support and professional charity organization for various charitable organizations throughout the local area. Over the years, the scope of this mission has expanded to include grants, scholarships, and other philanthropic initiatives within Kansas City, throughout the Midwest, and even nation-wide. Award Amount: $3,000 will be provided in the first installment, and students may be eligible for an additional $2,000 during the next semester so long as they remain in good academic standing and make progress toward a degree.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Application instructions and additional information for the Black Community Scholarship Fund are available online at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (GKCCF) website. In addition to the completed online application form, applicants for this scholarship must submit the following: proof of financial need; transcripts or other records of academic performance that include a current or recent grade point average; and additional information about any leadership roles, community service, or volunteer efforts that may be pertinent to the award.Completed applications with all supporting documents must be received no later than the deadline date. Late and incomplete submissions will not be considered.
