Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must attend one of the following high schools in the Cedar Rapids Community School District: Kennedy, Metro, Washington, or Jefferson. Each year, on a rotating basis, applicants from one of the high schools mentioned will be considered for this award. This year the award will be offered to a student of Kennedy High School.
  4. Must attend Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
  5. Must demonstrate serious financial need.
  6. Must plan to enroll full time.
  7. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Graduating high school seniors who are attending Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and are planning to enroll full time at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids are eligible for this award. Students must demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: The KCC financial aid office will recommend students based on a combination of financial need and academic achievement. Scholarship recipients must thank the donors who have made the scholarship(s) possible. Scholarship funds will not be disbursed until recipient thank-you letters are received.

Award Amount: Up to $1,200 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,200.

Applications are available online from the Kirkwood Community College (KCC) website. Students should apply online; only students without Internet access should complete the printable application. A student applying for this scholarship must have an admissions application on file. Admissions applications are available online on the KCC website. There is an additional application required for scholarships. Even if the student plans to apply for more than one scholarship, he/she must fill out only one application. His/her information will be carefully matched with all scholarships for which he/she may qualify. In addition to a completed scholarship application, each student must also submit an official copy of his/her high school transcript; and a summary of no more than 300 words addressing his/her educational goals, future career and employment goals, community service/organizational volunteer work, and how his/her education at Kirkwood will help him/her achieve these goals. The summary may also include special circumstances and should address any other required information for specific scholarships the student wishes to apply for. No transcript is required if the applicant has already attended Kirkwood for six credit hours or more. Please note: To be considered for need-based financial aid, the student must file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on or before the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at college financial aid offices, and at high school guidance offices. All applications must be submitted electronially or mailed by the deadline date to be considered for the first round of funding. Applications received after the deadline and before July 31 will be considered for the second round of funding.
