Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must currently attend Michigan State University. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Eli Broad College of Business at MSU.
  4. Must be a currently enrolled student of junior or senior standing.
  5. Must demonstrate involvement with or contributions to LGBT communities.
  6. Must demonstrate academic excellence.

Description: This scholarship is open to undergraduate juniors and seniors who are currently enrolled at Michigan State University; preference is given to students enrolled in the Eli Broad College of Business at MSU. Candidates must demonstrate academic excellence and involvement with or contributions to LGBT communities.

Additional Information: Stephen Pougnet and Christopher Green decided to establish this scholarship because of their desire to help students in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and/or transgender community at MSU and to inspire these students to have the confidence to succeed in their professional careers. Stephen Pougnet graduated from MSU with a BA in 1985 from the Eli Broad College of Business. Stephen is currently the mayor of the City of Palm Springs, California, where he also develops and sells real estate. Christopher Green graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a BA in Business Administration in 1982 and a BS in Nursing in 1985; he also received an MBA from the University of Colorado in 1998. Christopher currently works in sales and marketing for AMGEN, Inc.

Award Amount: $2,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the Michigan State University (MSU) Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgender (LBGT) Resource Center website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a resume that includes co-curricular involvement and activities, including any involvement outside of school that demonstrates his/her commitment to the LBGT community (in Word or PDF); and a 500- to 1,000-word personal statement that explains why he/she is seeking this scholarship and his/her relevant experience in light of the description of the scholarship (in Word or PDF). The student may mention, but need not prove, financial need. Applications may be emailed or mailed to the LBGT Resource Center using the contact information provided. Applications must be submitted by the end of the day on the deadline date.
