Number of Awards & Eligibility: 10 awards offered annually and disbursed as follows: one Ray B. Essick Scholarship Award, one Board of Directors' Scholarship Award, and eight NSPF Scholarship Awards.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a certified pool and spa operator (CPO), certified pool and spa operator instructor or the immediate family member of a CPO or CPO instructor.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

Additional Information: Each applicant is eligible for one of three awards offered by the NSPF-the Ray B. Essick Scholarship Award, the Board of Directors' Scholarship Award, and the NSPF Scholarship Award. Award recipients will be notified on or before Aug. 1. Upon award, payment will be submitted directly to the college or university. Awards cannot be paid directly to students.

Award Amount: Awards range from $1,000 to $2,000 as follows: Ray B. Essick Scholarship Award-$2,000 annually, non-renewable. Board of Directors' Scholarship Award-$2,000 annually, non-renewable. NSPF Scholarship Award-$1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,667.

Applications for this award can be found on the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF) website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit the following: a biographical sketch of no more than 300 words; a complete resume including extracurricular activities and awards; a 2" x 3" or digital photograph; a typed research paper of no more than five pages (double-spaced, 12 pt font) on one of the topics listed on the application; official academic transcripts from his/her current academic institution and previous academic transcripts if the student has been enrolled for less than two years; and two letters of recommendation from teachers or college professors. If the applicant is a high school senior, he/she must also submit his/her most recent SAT/ACT scores. The research paper must include three or more references from a peer-reviewed journal, with citations following the Modern Language Association (MLA) format. All application materials must be received by the deadline date. The applicant's name should appear on the application and all supporting materials.
