Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Ohio.
  3. Must be enrolled at any participating Ohio postsecondary institution.
  4. Must be the child or spouse of a peace officer, firefighter, or certain other safety officer who was killed in the line of duty, anywhere in the United States; OR be the child or spouse of a member of the armed services of the U.S., who has been killed in the line of duty during Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or a combat zone designated by the President of the United States.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must enroll full time or part time.
  7. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in an undergraduate associate's or bachelor's degree program.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to U.S students who are children/spouses of safety officers who have died in the line of duty and children/spouses of a member of the armed services of the U.S. who has been killed in the line of duty during Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or a combat zone designated by the President of the United States. Students must be residents of Ohio and planning to attend an eligible postsecondary institution in Ohio.

Additional Information: This program provides tuition assistance to the children and spouses of peace officers, firefighters and certain other safety officers who are killed in the line-of-duty, anywhere in the United States. It also provides assistance to the children and spouses of a member of the armed services of the US, who has been killed in the line of duty during Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom or a combat zone designated by the President of the United States. The child is only eligible for this program if he/she is not eligible for the Ohio War Orphans Scholarship.

Award Amount: For the 2014-2015 academic year, the Fund will provide benefits which cover 100 percent instructional and general fee charges at public colleges and universities and $7,494 per year at private and proprietary postsecondary institutions. Eligibility is for 10 semesters or 15 quarters (up to five years or until a bachelor's degree is obtained). This includes terms that the student uses benefits and is not enrolled full time.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,355.
