Number of Awards & Eligibility: Five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must be a post high school student.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be attending vocational-technical classes.
  5. Must be a current member of AMRA, or be the spouse or dependent child or grandchildren (who can be claimed as dependents on their parents' income tax return).

Description: This award is for students attending vocational-technical classes at an accredited vocational-technical school. Students must be current members of American Military Retirees Association (AMRA), their spouses or dependent children, or their grandchildren (who can be claimed as dependents on their parents' income tax return).

Additional Information: These scholarships are named in honor of AMRA Past National President Bernard E. Dillon who conceived the notion of growing the amount of scholarships AMRA could award by having the Association donate $1.00 of each member's dues to the scholarship fund. Subsequently, he encouraged the Association to create a Foundation that would raise funds to continually increase the number of scholarships that could be provided to military families. Dillon later became the first President of the Foundation Board. This scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books and/or supplies required for enrollment or attendance and may not be used for payment of room and board.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in November for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online form the American Military Retirees Association (AMRA) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit an essay of no more than 750 words, three letters of recommendation, and his/her transcripts (including SAT/ACT scores). Essay guidelines are available on page three of the application. Letters of recommendation must be dated and contain the author’s name, title, phone number, and signature. The application and supporting materials must be submitted electronically via fax using the number listed or email to scholarship@amra1973.org, received by 4:30 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
