Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 100 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a veteran parent who is or was at time of death drawing pension for total and permanent disability as rated by the USDVA OR a veteran parent who is a deceased war veteran who was honorably discharged and who does not qualify for any other education assistance offered by NCDVA OR a veteran parent who served in a combat zone, or waters adjacent to a combact zone, and received a campaign badge or medal and who does not qualify for any other education assistance offered by NCDVA.
  3. Must attend an accredited North Carolina junior college, community college, technical school, or college or university (public or private) approved by the program.
  4. Must have been born in North Carolina and resided there continuously and be a resident of North Carolina at the time of application. In addition, the veteran must have been a legal resident of North Carolina at time of entry into service.
  5. Must be under the age of 25 at the time of application.
  6. Must be the child of a veteran.
  7. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  8. Must be a U.S. citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate North Carolina students who are under 25 at time of application and plan to attend or are attending a North Carolina college. Students must have a veteran parent who is or was at time of death drawing pension for total and permanent disability as rated by the USDVA OR a veteran parent who is a deceased war veteran who was honorably discharged and who does not qualify for any other education assistance offered by NCDVA OR a veteran parent who served in a combat zone, or waters adjacent to a combact zone, and received a campaign badge or medal and who does not qualify for any other education assistance offered by NCDVA.

Application requirements for the North Carolina Scholarship for Children of War Time Veterans are:

Additional Information: This program is competitive. The scholarship committee will make its selections on or around April 26. No educational assistance shall be afforded a child under this article after the end of an eight-year period beginning on the date the scholarship is first awarded.

Award Amount: This award is for free tuition, a room allowance, a board allowance and exemption from certain mandatory fees as set forth in the law in public, community and technical colleges/institutions OR $4,500 per nine-month academic year in private colleges and junior universities. This award is renewable for up to three additional years if used within eight years of the award date.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $450,000.

To obtain an application and additional information about this award, the student should contact his/her local Veterans Service Officer. The application must be received in the assistant secretary's office at the address provided on or before the deadline date.
