Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, if sufficient funds are available, as determined by the Ohio Board of Regents, all eligible applicants will be awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Ohio.
  3. Must attend a private or public postsecondary institution in Ohio.
  4. Must be at least 16 years old and be under the age of 25.
  5. Must be the child of a deceased or severely disabled veteran who served in the armed forces during a period of declared war of conflict.
  6. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll full-time.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  8. Must be a high school senior or older.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Ohio residents who are children of deceased or severely disabled veterans that served during a time of declared war or conflict. Students must be under the age of 25 and be enrolled full-time at an eligible postsecondary institution in Ohio.

Additional Information: The Ohio War Orphans Scholarship is a state program, created by the Ohio General Assembly, established to provide tuition assistance to the children of deceased or severely disabled Ohio veterans who served in the armed forces during a period of declared war or conflict.

Award Amount: Scholarship benefits cover 93% of tuition and fees at University System of Ohio institutions and up to $6,628 at Ohio’s private and for-profit colleges and universities. Awards are renewable for up to four additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $26,512.

Applications are available online at the Ohio Board of Regents website, from the Ohio Board of Regents/State Grants and Scholarships Department, from high school guidance offices, from veteran service offices, and from the financial aid offices of participating institutions. In addition to the completed application students must also submit a copy of war service record, a copy of Veteran's Administration disability rating, and a copy of his/her current grade point average if he/she has attended college. Original documentation of service and disability records should not be submitted. The application must be postmarked no later than May 15.
