Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must attend a Texas public college or university.
  3. Must have moved to Texas after separating from military.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a former member of the U.S. Armed Forces or a former Commissioned Officer of the U.S. Public Health Service (or spouse or dependent child of a former member/office) who has retired or been honorably discharged.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to former members of the U.S. Armed Forces or former commissioned officers of the U.S. Public Health Service who are retired or have been honorably discharged. The student must have enrolled in a Texas public college or university for any term or semester at a state institution of higher education that begins before the first anniversary of the member's separation.

Application requirements for the Military: Honorably Discharged, Separated or Retired Veterans Who Move to Texas Waiver are:

  • Available from participating institution
Additional Information: Each student must meet the following requirements: has executed a document at least one year preceding the first day of the term or semester with the applicable service branch that is in effect on the first day of the term or semester that (a) indicates the member's permanent residence address is in Texas and (b) designates Texas as the member's place of legal residence for income tax purposes; and has registered to vote in Texas for the entire year preceding the first day of the term or semester. The student must also meet one of the following criteria: for the entire year preceding the first day of the term or semester has owned real property in Texas and in that time has not been delinquent in the payment of any taxes on the property; has had an automobile registered in Texas for the entire year preceding the first day of the term or semester; or at least one year preceding the first day of the term or semester executed a will that has not been revoked or superseded indicating that the member is a resident of this state and deposited the will with the county clerk of the county of the member's residence under Section 71, Texas Probate Code.

Award Amount: This award is for a waiver of non-resident tuition. The value of the waiver is the difference between the non-resident and resident tuition rate.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,730.
