Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered annually varies depending on income available from investments and donations to the fund. Last year, five awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe.
  4. Must be enrolled in an accredited technical school, college or university and pursue a medical or health-related program (includes medical doctors, physician assistants, nurses, technicians and other health careers).
  5. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate and/or graduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Undergraduate or graduate students who are residents of Wisconsin attending or planning to attend a Wisconsin institution full time are eligible for this award. Students must pursue training or advanced education as a doctor of medicine, nurse, medical technician or another health-related field, and be enrolled as a member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe.

Application requirements for the Amy Hunter-Wilson, M.D. Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Preference will be given to residents of Wisconsin attending an accredited institution in Wisconsin. Adults returning to school in a health care field or those currently working in a non-professional health-related field who are pursuing a professional license or degree are eligible to apply. Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria: financial need, academic achievement, personal qualities and strengths, and their letters of recommendation. Each candidate will be notified of his/her application status by April 1.

Award Amount: Award amounts vary, but are generally $1,000 or more, non-renewable. Award amounts are based on need, academic standing and career goals.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation (WMSF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit a one- to two-page personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; a transcript of recent high school or higher education work; two letters of recommendation, preferably from school officials who can discuss his/her academic and personal achievements as well as his/her potential for future success; and verification of tribal enrollment from an authorized tribal office. If the applicant has applied for financial aid at his/her institution for the current academic year, he/she should enclose a copy of the financial award letter. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
