In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be of Native American descent who are members of any recognized Native American tribe.
  4. Must attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
  5. Must be a high school graduate or older.

Description: This award is available to U.S. undergraduate students who are enrolled at Fort Lewis College, Colorado. Students must be members of Native American descent who are members of any recognized Native American tribe.

Application requirements for the Native American Tuition Assistance Program are:

  • FAFSA
Additional Information: The Fort Lewis College Office of Admission reviews applications from Native Americans to determine if they qualify for the tuition waiver. If a Native American qualifies according to tribal certification and Fort Lewis College admission standards, the student's tuition will be waived. Native American students are encouraged to contact their Tribal Agency to find out how to apply for additional financial assistance.

Award Amount: Qualified Native American students will be admitted to Fort Lewis College tuition-free.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $41,744.

To apply, students must apply for admission to the Fort Lewis College (SLC) and complete the Certification of Tribal Membership Form. Interested students must contact Fort Lewis College Admissions by phone, e-mail, mail, or website to request an application packet, or apply online from the college website. Students are also required to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The deadline to apply is based on the admission process at Fort Lewis College. The admission deadline for regular decision for the fall term is August 15.
